Until recently it was impossible to ask a local beer in the city of Alicante. Today we already have various references as the Sacristan of Sant Vicent del Raspeig, the Spigha, which is manufactured in Alcoi, the Xabiga of Xàbia, or different varieties of Santa Faz, Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara to beers from a couple of months ago sold Antonio Miralles.
Its history is very similar to nearly all that are introduced into the world of the micro brewery. “Just over one year ago I closed my previous business, dedicated to gardening and I signed some courses for entrepreneurs. I had heard that craft beer brewing was working in areas such as Catalonia and it seemed to me that it could be a good alternative. After nearly a year to develop the formulas, facilities and all the paperwork, not even two months ago that we managed to come out on the market, coinciding with the day of Santa Faz, and the truth is that I am quite optimistic with the first results.”
For Miralles key for this type of product is first of all to offer a quality beer and made in an artisan way. “The degree of dedication that we bring to each one of the bottles we manufacture would be impossible for a large brewery. Here we employ no filtering aggressive, no preservatives or additives industrial procedures. It’s offering a beer with an aroma and a characteristic taste, which do different, unique”.
This commitment to craftsmanship is also linked to the local nature of its product. From there to almost all craft beers to claim on their labels values of the area where they make. Names as Alicante or Santa Faz, Santa Barbara, joined others with influences such as the Socarrada, which occurs in Xativa and is a tribute to the ‘malnom’ of its inhabitants, the Valencian Tyris, referring to the name given in the pre-Roman city, or beers Micalet, in allusion to the Bell Tower of the Cathedral of Valencia.
Miralles is aware that something is changing in the consumer. “Mostly young people is that increasingly appreciates the taste of a good beer. You are interested to know where it is made, and they appreciate the confidence that consume a product made in your area. It is the same feeling that has that buy the bread in the oven of her neighborhood front buy it that in a supermarket”.
